The top 6 cities to get your romance on

As Valentine’s Day approaches it has got us thinking about romance, and the best places in the world to experience it. Some cities just ooze romance, whilst others take a bit of work to get that romantic vibe going. Here are our top 6 cities to get your romance on.

1- Venice

So this one is pretty obvious. There is nothing more romantic than walking hand in hand gazing out at the Grand Canal. Let’s not forget the Gondola rides which are pretty much the perfect thing to do as a couple in the city. Aside from that, Venice has cheap wine,  great food, and an incredible atmosphere. Perfect for any romantic break.

2- Las Vegas

You might not immediately think a place with the nickname Sin City would be romantic, but stay with me on this. Las Vegas is the perfect place to visit as a couple. For starters you and your beloved can ride the Gondolas in the Venetian Hotel, and then admire the views from the Eiffel Tower Experience at the Paris Hotel. Then let’s not forget the whole dinner and a show culture that Vegas has going on. Also a place with that many wedding chapels just has to be romantic, right?!

3- Prague

Not going to lie, Prague often makes it on our list of must visits. I know that there is that seedy stag do side of it, but just ignore that. It is also the perfect place to go as a couple. In fact one of our favourite experiences was sipping mulled wine on the Charles Bridge as a light dusting of snow fell from the sky. Talk about romance! Prague also has some awesome cobbled streets where you can walk arm in arm as you admire the sights and stumble upon your next place to eat and drink with a view.

4- New York City

So with this one it probably all depends on what you decide to do when you visit. Keep in mind the Empire State Building is one of the most popular places for a proposal, so it is easy to see that romance is still rife in the city. Central Park is the perfect place to visit as a couple, where you can ride horse drawn carriages or even row boats together. There are also some incredible spots to picnic. For this reason NYC definitely gets our vote. We may also be slightly biased because we spent our honeymoon in the city, which you can read about here.

5- Edinburgh

Nothing says romance like beautiful scenery and some amazing architecture. Edinburgh is a stunning place to visit. You can walk hand in hand as you stroll down the cobbled Royal Mile, or profess your love after several glasses of Scotch Whisky. Plus it is also one of the world’s most haunted cities and nothing says romance then scaring yourself and being comforted by your partner (thanks Dave!).

6- Zurich

To me nothing says I love you more than indulging in some Swiss Chocolate together. Zurich is a great place for romance because it is atmospheric for starters. It also has some pretty cool coffee shops  that you can nestle in to escape the cold. Zurich has some beautiful streets you can stroll down arm in arm, as well as some gorgeous views. It is perfect for experiencing as a couple.

I totally agree about Prague and Edinburgh. Those two are really high on my list. As somebody who lives as an expat in Zurich though… yes it’s beautiful and quaint but I don’t find it romantic. To me it lacks the poetry of the first two cities and I need a buzz in the atmosphere around me to set my heart aflutter!

It’s funny isn’t it how you can take the same city and have a totally different interpretation of it. I do agree it definitely lacks the poetry of Prague or Edinburgh, but I think the cobble stoned streets and beautiful cafes swayed me on this one. That being said there is nothing romantic about the prices in Zurich!!!!!!

Just in time. We’re planning a trip this summer to celebrate an anniversary. Would love to see Venice! Been to Vegas a while back – wasn’t really impressed – sorry. And Zurich would be wonderful to visit, too! Now if we could only find the money!

Haha I know we have the same problem 😂! I agree Vegas certainly isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, Venice and Zurich are gorgeous though! All those old buildings and cobbled streets 😍. X
